2022. Pocketbook to add support for AZW ebooks



Pocketbook is starting to include support for the Amazon Kindle AZW ebook format. The first e-reader to officially gain this capability is the Inkpad 3, following a firmware update on July 20th. The official Send to Pocketbook app, available on all their e-readers, has also been updated to support sending AZW and AZW3 books directly to your device. AZW is an eBook file format developed by Amazon for their Kindle eBook reader. This format is used for eBooks that require DRM protection and is similar to the Mobipocket PRC file, which does not require DRM protection.

Pocketbook has revamped their entry-level Basic 4 e-reader, which will be released at the end of the month. Unlike earlier models, this one features page-turn buttons at the bottom of the display and a vibrant, eye-catching home button. The entire device does not resemble a budget model; Pocketbook has essentially overhauled its industrial design. The Pocketbook Basic 4 boasts a six-inch E INK Carta HD display with a resolution of 1024×758 and 212 PPI. It is equipped with a Freescale 1 GHz processor, 256MB of RAM, 8GB of storage and an SD card slot supporting up to 32GB of additional storage. Its dimensions are 161.3 × 108 × 8 mm and it weighs a modest 145g.

Pocketbook has just released the long-anticipated firmware version 6.0 for the PocketBook InkPad 3 Pro and the Pocketbook Touch HD 3 e-readers. A new bookstore has been introduced, allowing you to purchase bestselling ebooks and audiobooks. The main menu and user interface have been completely redesigned and a new music player has been added. These updated e-readers also support EPUB3. The new main menu design features a list of recommendations with selected books (such as the latest novels and bestsellers) and offers the ability to customize the e-reader’s Home Screen. Users can add app icons, enable or disable book recommendations and more.

The PocketBook Basic 3 is a new entry-level e-reader featuring a 6-inch E Ink screen (800×600) and an integrated Wi-Fi module. The PocketBook Basic Lux has a six-inch E-Ink Carta display with a resolution of 1024×768 and 212 PPI. It includes a front-lit screen for reading in low light and physical page-turn buttons for those who prefer not to rely exclusively on the touchscreen.

Pocketbook introduced their second-generation waterproof $141 e-reader, the Aqua 2. This device features a six-inch E-Ink Carta screen with a resolution of 1024×768 and 212 PPI. It can store a vast collection of e-books with its 8GB of internal memory and allows you to listen to audiobooks via the built-in 3.5mm headphone jack. It includes a front-light for reading in low light conditions and is also waterproof and dustproof (IP57 standard). The Aqua 2 connects to the Internet through WIFI. E-books can also be transferred directly to the device via Dropbox and the Send-to-PocketBook service. For reading foreign-language e-books, several Abbyy-Lingvo dictionaries are preinstalled.
